We have all walked into a public place wearing our Scout uniform. Have you ever noticed the
silent response people give to you? Do people ever say anything to you? I have never had a
negative response from the public regarding my association with Scouting simply because
Scouting has built a solid reputation for many years all across our community. You are
contributing to that reputation as we speak, and I am depending on you to uphold it. The youth of
our great organization look up to us as parents, leaders, and role models. Our duty is to show
them the proper way to live the ideals of Scouting in every aspect of our life by enforcing each
part of the Scout Law-even when it’s not convenient for us. This summer, I challenge you to live
the Scout Law in all areas of life, beyond repeating it at unit meetings. Scouting is founded
upon sound principles, and should we ever undermine those principles, the reputation that WE
have so proudly established will never be the same.
