The Honorable Mary Ponds has been the Mayor of Granite Quarry for nine years
and was elected in her first run for public office.  She grew up in Granite Quarry,
attended Rowan County Public Schools, and received her teaching degree from
Livingstone College.  She retired from South Rowan High School after thirty-four years
of teaching.

Dr. Beverly Pugh is the principal of Corriher-Lipe Middle School in Landis.  Her list of
educational and community involvements is long.  She continues to be supportive of
the Scouting outreach in her community and helpful to all requests to talk with students
during fall and spring roundups.

James Parnell is a Professional Scouter and the Field Director for the entire Central
NC Council.  In that role he is responsible for all council field operations in seven
counties including membership growth, manpower recruiting and finance.  After two
dynamic summers as director and phenomenal attendance growth, he also serves as
the council Summer Camp advisor.

The Corriher-Lipe Middle School Show Choir is an outstanding group of
twenty-one 6th - 8th graders.  Members travel to churches, festivals, and nursing
homes to present musical programs.  In April, the choir members will compete in the
Smoky Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, TN.

Elks' Statement of Support
The Benevolent & Protective
Order of Elks is proud and
pleased to present an official
certificate of accomplishment
and an American Flag to the
outstanding young men who
have earned the rank of
Eagle Scout.  Elks believe that
the flag is an appropriate
presentation because it is not
only the symbol of the
greatest country on earth but
in Elkdom it represents what
we consider to be the greatest
virtue that an individual can
possess, that of charity.  As
these young men navigate
through their chosen path of
life it is hoped that every time
they see an American Flag it
not only will increase their
devotion to this country but it
will also serve as a reminder
to be charitable to all mankind.
